Los Angeles detectives have reached out to Montreal police about a possible connection between Luka Magnotta and the death of Hervey Medellin, whose body parts were found scattered near the infamous Hollywood sign earlier this year.
On Thursday, Montreal police confirmed that they were in contact with their counterparts in L.A.
"We heard about (the Medellin case)," Lafreniere told QMI Agency on Thursday. "Of course we will take a look on our side and track all of (Magnotta's) movements."
Medellin was discovered in Bronson Canyon Park on Jan. 17 when a dog discovered a plastic bag that contained his head. The accompanying dog walker called the police who discovered severed hands and feet during the course of a two-day search.

Lafreniere said he believes Magnotta was in Los Angeles at the time of Medellin's murder. However, the Los Angeles Times had reported Wednesday that its police sources believe there is no connection between Magnotta and Medellin.
That hasn't stopped news outlets from searching for other linkages.
ABC News is reporting that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency would not confirm if Magnotta was in the United States at the time.

Posts on one of several Facebook accounts attributed to Magnotta dated from February suggest he was. In those updates, first discovered by the New York Observer, the poster appears to be arranging appointments to offer massages and includes a phone number with an L.A. area code.
In addition, the U.K. Sun newspaper reported Thursday that a Los Angeles-based pimp claims to have hired Magnotta to work as a prostitute in January.
Lafreniere said the Mendellin investigation will move forward once officers are able to get a DNA sample of Magnotta.
